Why Remake of 10-Yr-Old Telugu Horror After Oscar Film?

Nitanshi Goel next film debate

After the success of Laapataa Ladies, Nitanshi Goel emerged as one of the most promising new faces in Hindi cinema. The Kiran Rao-directed film earned her strong critical recognition and positioned her as a talent to watch.

Her performance brought major accolades, including a Best Actress win at the IIFA Awards 2025. She also received a Filmfare Best Female Debut nomination. Laapataa Ladies was India’s official entry to Oscars, further raising expectations.

Following such a high profile debut, anticipation around her next move increased sharply. However, the months after her breakthrough remained relatively quiet. Despite several reports, no immediate projects were officially announced or confirmed.

Nitanshi was linked to multiple films, including Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana 2 opposite Abhay Verma. None of these projects moved forward. Industry discussions suggested several scripts were explored but failed to materialise.

The actor has earlier spoken about long audition processes and repeated delays. She has indicated that her journey into films has been gradual. The post debut phase, even after success, has not been smooth.

That quiet period now appears to be ending with Hundred, a horror film directed by Sajid Khan and co-starring Yashvardhan Ahuja. The film is rumoured to be an adaptation of Telugu film Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada, though no confirmation exists.

While the project brings Nitanshi back into active production, it has also sparked debate online. Much of the discussion focuses on the collaboration and audience expectations. Her talent remains unquestioned, but scrutiny around her choices is clearly increasing.
