Despite being one of the most anticipated big-ticket films in Indian cinema, War 2 has so far maintained a surprisingly low profile in terms of promotions.
The film brings together two of the country’s biggest stars — Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. — under the direction of Ayan Mukerji, known for his ambitious visual storytelling like in Brahmastra.
Backed by Yash Raj Films, the banner behind major franchises like Dhoom and Pathaan, War 2 is the official sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War.
Adding to its scale, the film is being released in Telugu by one of South India’s most prominent production houses, marking a serious attempt at a true pan-India reach.
With everything from star power to production muscle working in its favor, many expected a massive marketing blitz. Instead, the promotional campaign has been surprisingly muted.
So far, updates have come in the form of sparse press notes and routine quotes like “Excited to be part of this film” or “It’s going to be a great experience.”
There’s been no trailer, songs, or even a event to spark some buzz— a stark contrast to how recent mega films like RRR, Baahubali, Pushpa: The Rule, and Kalki 2898 AD built momentum through meticulously planned promotional waves.
Industry insiders believe that Hrithik Roshan and NTR may not share a platform for promotions — at least not until closer to release. This could explain the low-key buildup.
But with just over a month to go until the August 14 release, fans and trade observers are growing increasingly curious — and concerned.
Whether this is a calculated move to create last-minute impact or a risk that could backfire remains to be seen. For now, War 2 appears to be relying more on star value and franchise potential than on traditional marketing buzz.
