Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik is arriving in theatres on July 11, 2025. It also featured Manushi Chhillar in the female lead alongside other popular faces such as Saurabh Shukla.
Rajkummar recently opened up on how he selected the film, considering that he is doing a film that is full of action for the first time. Rajkummar said that he was attracted to the script and his character was “gritty, raw, and rugged.” He mentioned that he was impressed with the story of his rise to power.
The actor stated that his character is a helpless individual who comes from a lower society and later becomes Maalik. Rajkummar revealed that although he was offered action films in the past, he never felt the excitement for any of them as he could not connect with the stories.
Rajkummar added that he accepted Maalik since it is a larger-than-life story and described it as a “mainstream entertainer.” He said that playing the character was not so easy since he believes in preparing mentally for any role.
While the trailer of Maalik is being loved by everyone, its potential at the box office is also being questioned, as there is zero buzz about the film. The promotional strategy has undoubtedly gone wrong, as only a section of the audience is aware of the film.
On the other hand, many other films have grabbed the attention of the audience in the last few weeks. Sitaare Zameen Par has continued its run in theatres and Maa has also managed to receive a positive response. Metro In Dino is leaving a positive impression on the multiplex audiences.
From Hollywood, F1 is doing well around India alongside Jurassic World: Rebirth, which is attracting audiences despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Moreover, James Gunn’s Superman is also releasing on July 11, the same day when Maalik will arrive in theatres.
In between so many films, it remains to be seen if audiences will show any interest in watching Maalik. This time, the positive reviews will not be enough to grab the attention, and Maalik undoubtedly needs a miracle to become successful.
