Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has sparked a fresh debate around the credibility and functioning of trade analysts in Bollywood.
This happened after he took a pointed swipe at a promotional post shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh for the upcoming film Rahun Main Tere Rubaru.
The controversy began after Taran shared a post promoting the teaser of Rahun Main Tere Rubaru.
The latter described it as a blend of “love, mystery, suspense, and unexpected twists” while announcing its theatrical release date of July 17, 2026.
Reacting to the post, Sanjay Gupta, known for directing films such as Kaante, Musafir, Aatish, and Kaabil, wrote, “Every time I see one of these posts, I know my dear buddy is ₹50,000 richer. God bless the ones paying. Lagey raho… cheers.”
While the filmmaker did not elaborate further, his sarcastic remark has once again brought into focus the conversations within the film industry regarding paid promotions and trade coverage.
It also highlights the increasingly blurred line between editorial opinion and marketing activity.
For years, there have been discussions and allegations within industry circles that certain promotional posts by trade analysts are sponsored or influenced by commercial arrangements.
There have also been criticisms from some filmmakers and moviegoers that certain films receive extensive coverage and promotion.
Meanwhile, others are overlooked despite performing well at the box office.
The debate has gained further traction recently after some industry observers questioned why several major trade voices remained largely silent about the box office resurgence of Main Vaapas Aaunga.
Many social media users expressed surprise that a film which managed a notable turnaround in theatres did not receive the kind of coverage associated with strong box office performances.
These discussions have once again raised broader questions about the role of trade analysts in the film industry.
It is important to note that allegations regarding paid promotions and selective coverage remain unverified and have not been independently substantiated.
However, Sanjay Gupta’s remarks have undoubtedly reignited a conversation that has existed within Bollywood for years.
EVERY TIME I SEE A STUPID POST LIKE THIS I KNOW MY DEAR BUDDY TARAN IS 50K RICHER.
GOD BLESS THE ONES PAYING
LAGEY RAHO… CHEERS. https://t.co/vr3dxIt86m— Sanjay Gupta (@_SanjayGupta) July 2, 2026
