Fighter & Heeramandi Beat Kalki 2898 AD in VFX Count

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) has just put out its Media and Entertainment (M&E) Report 2025, giving a close reading of emerging trends in fields including films, TV, digital media, music, live entertainment, radio, sports, and beyond.

Some of its highlights, the report explored the increased use of visual effects (VFX) in Indian films and came up with some astonishing statistics for big-ticket productions.

In the VFX department, Fighter took the top spot with a whopping 3,500+ VFX shots designed by Redefine Studios. This was way ahead of Heeramandi, which had 1,200 VFX shots by FutureWorks, and Kalki 2898 AD, which had more than 900 shots delivered by DNEG and Redefine.

Though its scope was ambitious, Kalki 2898 AD had mixed reviews for its VFX quality—while certain sequences were appreciated for their technical excellence, others were faulted for uneven execution.

There was even a viral video that exposed how some scenes employed CGI to substitute Prabhas with his body double, fuelling controversies among fans.

The report points out the way Heeramandi and Fighter surpassed Kalki 2898 AD in sheer VFX quantity. The trend highlights the growing use of visual effects in narration, with filmmakers exploring new limits to provide immersive experiences.
