Cricket and cinema are two of India’s biggest passions, and whenever these worlds collide, they stir up excitement among people. Recently, such a clash ignited sparks once more.
The cricket world was left shocked when Rohit Sharma voluntarily withdrew from the Sydney Test between India and Australia in the 2024-2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His decision received all kinds of reactions online.
A lot of people were in favour of his decision whereas a lot of them were against it.
Actress Vidya Balan was quite touched by it. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her views. But fans were quick to comment that she was part of a publicity stunt orchestrated by Sharma and his team.
On January 4, the actress tweeted in favour of Rohit Sharma’s decision and his courageous step to drop himself from the Sydney Test between India and Australia.
She penned, “Rohit Sharma, what a SUPERSTAR! To take a pause & catch your breath requires courage … More power to you … Respect!”

But soon after, some netizens picked out details that proved that she was a part of Rohit Sharma’s publicity stunt.
Some even said that she blindly copy-pasted the text forwarded by his PR team.
As a response, Vidya Balan’s team responded to all the trolling and stated that her tweet came only because she was touched by ‘his selfless act’.
They reacted to the speculations and clarified that it wasn’t a PR stunt but a genuine moment. Her team said that she is an avid sports fan and she was genuinely touched by his decision. It was not part of any PR stunt.
Apart from Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar also shared a heartfelt post about Sharma calling him a ‘superstar’ and thanking him for showing the world that he put the Indian cricket team before himself.
