The unexpected box office success of Saiyaara has inadvertently slowed momentum for YRF’s next major release, War 2. With the studio seemingly relaxed after Saiyaara’s surprise blockbuster run, fans are concerned that Yash Raj Films is underestimating the promotional needs of a mega-budget film. Unlike Saiyaara, which caught everyone off guard, War 2 comes with massive expectations, and it cannot afford to rely on luck or word-of-mouth alone to succeed.
Starring Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan, War 2 is positioned as one of the biggest releases in the YRF Spy Universe. Fans are already projecting a ₹125 crore day-one collection, but that figure is impossible without a well-executed nationwide promotional campaign. So far, YRF’s strategy seems to rely mostly on limited theatrical trailer runs. For a project of this magnitude, such a laid-back approach could severely backfire and dampen box office numbers.
YRF needs to rethink its War 2 marketing blueprint. A minimum of two large-scale promotional events—one in the North and one in the South—are essential to ignite hype across the country. Branding opportunities on public transportation in metro cities have yet to be explored. Regional news channels could be used to broadcast teasers in local languages, helping to connect with audiences that make or break pan-India films. As of now, none of these measures appear to be in motion.
While Saiyaara turned out to be a surprise win, it followed a pattern of low expectations and high returns. War 2, on the other hand, carries high stakes. A big budget, major stars, and a spot in the growing Spy Universe mean that YRF must go all out with their marketing. Leaving the film’s success up to fate or relying on a teaser alone isn’t a viable strategy. The audience wants more, and War 2 deserves more.
YRF’s reputation as a marketing powerhouse is now being questioned. Fans and industry watchers alike are hoping the studio rethinks its plans and ensures that War 2 gets the promotional firepower it needs. With less than ideal buzz so far, only time will tell whether YRF steps up or risks missing the mark with one of its most awaited films.
