The shooting of Dhanush’s anticipated Om directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy is nearing its final stages and earlier the makers of this film announced that it would hit the screens on October 16th as a Dussehra special. However, recent sources suggest that Om is being postponed due to delays in production.
Since the announcement, Om has generated massive expectations among audiences, as it is Rajkumar Periyasamy’s immediate film following the blockbuster success of Amaran.
Also, all the promotional materials, including the special glimpses and the first single released from this film, became viral hits, making Om one of the most anticipated films of Dhanush in recent times.
A few months ago, with a special title reveal glimpse, the makers of Om announced that it would hit the screens on October 16th and locked the Dussehra slot. When everyone expected that Om would enjoy a solo release and become a massive hit with a free run, all of a sudden the makers of Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 intervened and locked the October 15th release slot.
Consequently, it was expected that Om would get postponed to avoid clashing with Jailer 2. But surprisingly, in all the recent promotional materials released from the film, the makers reconfirmed that the film would be released as planned on October 16th.
Additionally, reports claimed that Netflix, which acquired the OTT rights of Om, didn’t want the film to get postponed to avoid a collapse in their planned schedule, which is why the makers of Om, left with no other option, were sticking to their original release date.
While everything was all set for a clash between Jailer 2 and Om for the Dussehra weekend and Kollywood audiences were waiting to witness this massive face-off, fresh reports are shockingly emerging that due to delays in the production process and also because director Rajkumar Periyasamy requires extra time for post-production, the makers are now planning to postpone the release to the third or fourth week of December.
If this speculation proves true, it would help the film avoid clashing with Jailer 2 and enjoy a solo Kollywood release. On the other hand, multiple big South Indian films including Prabhas’s Fauzi, are scheduled for a theatrical release in December.
Even though Fauzi might be postponed, nothing has been officially confirmed yet and according to the current situation, it seems like December is going to be an overcrowded month with multiple big releases.
Nonetheless, there are still no official updates on Om’s postponement. It remains to be seen whether Om will be postponed to a new release date to enjoy a solo release or will be released as originally planned.
