The box office battle for the first week of December 2026 has taken an interesting turn, and it may not necessarily work in Prabhas’ Fauzi‘s favor, especially in the Hindi market.
Until recently, the corridor was expected to witness a three-way clash between Prabhas‘ Fauzi, Ajay Devgn-Sanjay Dutt’s Ranger, and Akshay Kumar’s untitled Sankrantiki Vastunnam remake directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Dil Raju.
However, Ranger has now reportedly been postponed to 2027, leaving the release window open. At first glance, that appears to be good news for Fauzi. But a fresh hurdle may have emerged.
According to Variety India, there is a strong possibility that Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal 5 could move into the same release window. If that happens, the first week of December could turn into a comedy festival.
After the success of Welcome to the Jungle and Dhamaal 4, comedy has once again become one of Bollywood’s hottest genres. If Golmaal 5 joins Akshay Kumar’s untitled remake, Hindi family audiences could have two major comedy entertainers to choose from. As a serious romantic drama, Fauzi could find it harder to attract that segment.
Interestingly, it could even become an Akshay vs Akshay battle. While Akshay is the hero in Anees Bazmee’s film, he is also playing a surprising role in Golmaal 5 in a bald avatar.
This comes on top of another major concern. Hollywood giants Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are also scheduled to arrive later in December, putting further pressure on Fauzi’s urban multiplex business.
That makes the Hindi market more crucial than ever. Given the film’s reported scale and budget, Fauzi cannot rely solely on the Telugu states to justify its economics. Ultimately, everything will depend on the content. If Hanu Raghavapudi delivers a powerful theatrical experience, Fauzi can still overcome the massive competition.
But the release corridor is becoming more crowded with every passing week. What once looked like a comfortable window is now shaping up to be one of the toughest box office battles of 2026. For Fauzi, opening big may not be enough. Sustaining momentum could prove to be the real challenge.
