Indians in the U.S., especially legal immigrants from the Telugu community who follow the rules, are now facing growing negativity and racism like never before in the history. Hostility toward Indians and H-1B visa holders has spiked sharply, especially after Trump took office, and the recent announcement of the controversial $100K fee for H-1B petitions adding to the tension.
There are different theories about the growing negativity toward Indians in the U.S. Some blame visible wealth and high-paying jobs, while others point to the sharp rise in student arrivals after COVID who behave in the U.S. as if they are on Ameerpet streets. Adding to this, fan celebrations at theaters such as shoutings, disturbances, and rituals have made even fellow Indian families uncomfortable in U.S. Every star hero fan base has been guilty of this.
With Pawan Kalyan’s OG releasing tomorrow, the timing is more sensitive than ever. As a politician, his fans carry greater responsibility. Noisy rituals, public shoutings, or coconut breaking in U.S. public spaces should be strictly avoided, as the situation is very sensitive for Indians right now.
The challenge is that fan behavior is hard to control. It usually starts in Dallas, and early signs are already visible (videos below). If fans ignore the larger consequences, the entire community’s image will suffer. Only self-awareness can change this, though hope remains low.
