A City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru has stepped in to protect director Ritesh Rana’s Jetlee ahead of its release, granting temporary relief against negative online campaigns.
In an order dated April 29, 2026, the court restrained social media platforms, influencers, and users from posting defamatory or unverified content before the film’s May 1 release.
The court observed that the makers had established a prima facie case. It noted a clear threat of misleading and damaging content being circulated online and stated that allowing such material could harm the film’s reputation and lead to massive financial losses. Based on this, it issued an ad-interim ex parte injunction to prevent further damage at this stage.
The petition was filed by Clap Entertainment, which told the court that nearly Rs. 20 crores have been invested in the project, including production, post-production, marketing, and distribution. The film stars Satya, Faria Abdullah, and Rhea Singha.
According to the complaint, even before release, several anonymous accounts and influencers had allegedly started coordinated negative campaigns. These included review bombing, manipulated ratings, trolling, and abusive comments. Some posts reportedly targeted the lead actor with derogatory language, while the film itself was being labeled a “flop” before audiences had even seen it.
The producers also highlighted that such content was spreading across major platforms like X (Twitter), YouTube, Google, BookMyShow, IMDb, and Facebook, by unverified or anonymous users.
Taking this seriously, the court directed all concerned parties not to publish or circulate false, defamatory, or malicious content about the film. It also ordered platforms to remove such content and ensure it does not reappear through search results or internal systems. Further, it restrained any coordinated attempts to manipulate ratings or distort public perception until further notice.
The case will be heard again on August 7, 2026. Until then, the order remains in force. Pre-release online attacks and organized digital targeting will not be ignored.
