Hombale Ruining Huge Potential Film with Cheap AI?

Mahavatar Parshuram teaser by Hombale Films

Production house Hombale Films has officially announced Mahavatar Parshuram, the second film in its planned Mahavatar Cinematic Universe. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film is scheduled to release in December 2027 and will focus on Lord Parshuram, known as the sixth avatar of Vishnu and a warrior who fights against injustice.

The announcement has created strong buzz, but it has also brought some backlash. The first-look video released by the makers did not go well with a section of the audience. Many felt that the visuals looked AI-generated and questioned why an animated film would depend on AI, raising doubts about quality and effort.

However, this reaction might be a bit early. The makers have already started hiring 3D animators, which clearly shows that the film is being developed as the biggest animation project from India. The teaser appears to be more of a rough concept or early preview rather than the final quality.

There are also comparisons being made with other animated films, but those comparisons may not be fair at this stage. Every project has its own budget, timeline, and creative process.

What is adding to the pressure is the success of Mahavatar Narsimha which was also produced by Hombale films and directed by Ashwin Kumar. That film was made on a relatively small budget of around Rs. 40 crores but went on to collect over Rs. 300 crores worldwide. It connected strongly with families and younger audiences, especially because of its devotional theme.

Because of that success, expectations for Mahavatar Parshuram are now much higher. There is already talk that the film could aim for Rs. 500 crore or even Rs. 1000 crore if everything works out and the film is made with right intentions, devotion, and good making.

But that is where the real challenge lies. The concept is strong, but execution will decide everything. Animation quality, storytelling, and emotional connect will be crucial. If any of these falls short, the hype can quickly turn into disappointment.

There is also a valid concern here. Indian animation has often struggled with consistency in quality. Unless the makers invest properly in time and talent, expectations alone will not guarantee success.

Let’s hope Hombale Films realize the film’s huge potential and ensure the film is extremely well made. It might be too soon to judge based on one teaser. The real picture will become clearer only when more solid visuals or a proper trailer is released.
