Marvel has finally dropped the trailer for Marvel Zombies, promoted as their first TV-MA animated project on Disney+. The chaos, the gore, and the infected Avengers make it look wild. Fans were excited to see Blade, though it was not Mahershala Ali’s long-awaited live-action film. Instead, Marvel introduced him in an animated crossover with Moon Knight, making fans wonder why years of anticipation ended with a cartoon.
Back in 2022, Moon Knight stood out as one of Marvel’s most acclaimed Disney+ shows. Oscar Isaac delivered a gripping performance that reminded fans of Marvel’s potential for dark, grounded, character-driven storytelling. For a while, it seemed like Marvel could balance spectacle with depth.
Now in 2025, hopes of seeing Moon Knight return in live-action seem weaker than ever. Instead of continuing his story, Marvel has tucked him inside a mashup role in a zombie apocalypse cartoon. It feels like a shortcut rather than a proper continuation of his arc.
The disappointment grows when you realise Marvel has teased two Midnight Suns favourites, Moon Knight and Blade, without delivering either on the big screen. Mahershala Ali was set to redefine Blade and looked perfect for the role. But delays, rewrites, and constant creative changes have left the project stuck in uncertainty.
Sure, fans may enjoy animated decapitations and an undead Scarlet Witch in Marvel Zombies. Yet when Blade and Moon Knight only appear in cartoons, it is hard not to feel that Marvel has lost its edge.
