The Telangana government has ordered all theatres screening Pawan Kalyan’s OG to remove special ticket price hikes. Rates will now return to standard government-approved levels, making the film more accessible to families and general audiences.
Earlier, OG tickets were significantly raised. Single-screen tickets reached Rs. 275, while multiplex prices hit Rs. 445. Hardcore fans tolerated these costs, but families and neutral viewers, vital for sustained box office growth, hesitated to buy, causing low occupancy after the first weekend.
Standard ticket rates in Telangana are about Rs. 175 for single screens and Rs. 295 for multiplexes. Audiences generally accept these rates, even if slightly high, making the government’s intervention timely for viewers.
This decision benefits OG by encouraging more weekday attendance after a slow start. However, it could create challenges for upcoming big-budget films like Kantara 2, which were expecting ticket hikes to recover costs. Future approval of hikes seems unlikely, potentially impacting box office revenue.
