It wasn’t long ago that Tollywood embraced the trend of re-releases. Almost every classic film of star heroes returned to theatres. But the excessive repetition soon diluted the excitement.
Now, a new viral trend seems to be emerging, linked to Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film OG.
On the occasion of Pawan Kalyan’s birthday, his fans organised an auction for the very first ticket of OG in the Nizam region. The ticket fetched an astounding Rs 5 lakh and was secured by Kalyan’s fan team from the USA.
The sale of a single cinema ticket for such a massive amount is both intriguing and infectious. If other hero fan groups treat this as inspiration or even as an ego challenge, future auctions could see even higher bids. This could, however, become a risky trend.
Spending lakhs of hard-earned money on film tickets has little logic, regardless of the fandom.
In this instance, the auction money will go to the Janasena party for social service, which gives the act some purpose. But if other fandoms follow suit for ego clashes and waste lakhs on ticket auctions, it could lead to needless loss of resources.
While donations and charity drives are always welcome, splurging huge sums on cinema ticket auctions only reflects the extremes of Tollywood madness.
