Pawan Kalyan-Sai Tej’s BRO is releasing this week, and the pre-release event was held. Pawan shared his opinion on the recent order by the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) that requires filmmakers to hire only Tamil artists and avoid shooting abroad. Another rule mandates that filming must exclusively take place within Tamil Nadu.
Pawan Kalyan said, “My request to the Tamil industry: come out of the mindset that only Tamilians should work. Today, the Telugu industry feeds and welcomes everyone. Similarly, the Tamil industry should accept talent from all regions, not restricting it to Tamilians alone; otherwise, the industry won’t grow (kunchinchukupotham). The Telugu film industry is thriving because it embraces people from all languages. If we confine ourselves to only our language, we limit our growth.
Tamil industry’s prominent figures should come out of chinna swabhavam (narrow-mindedness) and explore global films like RRR. Movies like Roja or Gentleman came about due to the contribution of AM Ratnam, a Telugu individual. If you have any issues, please address them, but shunning and imposing limitations will hinder the industry’s growth,” he said.
As expected, Tamil fans immediately started countering Pawan Kalyan on social media. Instead of understanding the intent behind PK’s comment, they trolled him, asking him to stop remaking their Tamil remakes. They pointed out that even his latest release ‘BRO’ is a remake of the Tamil film “Vinodhaya Sitham.”
It is undeniable that Pawan Kalyan has done more than a dozen remakes in his career, but that is irrelevant in this context. He didn’t mean to put down the Tamil industry; rather, he was highlighting how the Telugu industry is growing by welcoming technicians and actors from every other language.
In general, filmmakers and the audience in the Tamil industry are not open to welcoming actors or films from other languages. On the other hand, in Telugu, even dubbed Telugu films recently collected revenues similar to straight Telugu films.
Telugu production houses take the initiative to bring Tamil films, and our audiences are open to watching them if the content is good.
However, when it comes to Tamil films, we rarely see any production house taking proactive steps like releasing a small Telugu blockbuster hit in Tamilnadu. But small films like “Love Story” from Tamil had an immediate Telugu dub release in AP and Telangana.
We know Tamil audiences are somewhat rigid when it comes to encouraging films from other languages, but it is the responsibility of Tamil big heads who own production houses to welcome films and actors from other states. If they do so, the audiences will surely watch their films.
While stars like Vijay might not even come once to promote their films in Hyderabad, Telugu folks and producers are carrying Tamil films with open-mindedness and considering the business aspect, as Telugu audiences don’t care about the language if the movie is good – they watch it.
In conclusion, instead of trolling PK for his remakes, Tamil movie fans and industry folks should realize that it’s high time they promote and embrace films from other languages. Otherwise, the Tamil industry may remain confined to Tamil Nadu and significantly lag behind the Telugu industry.
Tamil industry should come out of narrow-mindedness, should work with other industry people. Telugu industry feeds everyone today.#PawanKalyan at #BroPreRelease
