Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit continues to remain one of the most talked-about upcoming Indian films. Ever since the project was announced, expectations have stayed massive because it brings together India’s biggest pan-India star and one of the country’s most controversial yet commercially successful directors after Animal.
Interestingly, one discussion around the film refuses to die down: what exactly is Triptii Dimri’s role in Spirit?
After Deepika Padukone exited the project and Triptii came on board, many on social media immediately assumed the character would mostly revolve around glamour and romantic scenes. That perception became even stronger because Triptii gained nationwide popularity after Animal, where her chemistry and intimate scenes with Ranbir Kapoor became one of the film’s biggest online talking points.
Now, a source close to Sandeep Reddy Vanga has directly responded to those assumptions.
According to him, Vanga never writes female characters merely as decorative additions to the story. He pointed out that even in strongly hero-centric films, heroines usually carry major emotional weight. Arjun Reddy and Animal were cited as examples, with Shalini Pandey and Rashmika Mandanna characters playing emotionally significant roles despite the films mostly revolving around the male leads.
He specifically mentioned that Rashmika’s role in Animal stood out because of the emotional conflict and family tension she brought into the narrative rather than just romance or glamour.
Reports now suggest Spirit will follow a similar pattern.
Triptii’s character, reportedly a doctor, is expected to have emotional depth and strong narrative importance alongside Prabhas’ role. In Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films, female characters often become central to the emotional impact of the story rather than simply existing around the hero.
At the same time, this discussion has reopened another debate surrounding Vanga’s writing. While Triptii gained massive popularity after Animal, many also felt her character in the film was poorly written, heavily sexualized, and objectified. A section of the audience raised strong objections over the way the character was portrayed despite the attention and fame it brought her.
That is why some now believe Spirit could be Vanga’s opportunity to correct that backlash by giving Triptii a more layered, emotionally substantial, and better-written character this time. Whether he truly delivers that change, however, will only become clear once the film releases.
