Nowadays we are hearing a lot about film stories copied from other languages, especially from Hollywood movies. Why only now? Aren’t there films made with copied stories before? Copying and plagiarism has been in the film industry since long. But recently people are able to guess easily whenever a film’s idea is copied from an English movie.
Creative director Trivikram Srinivas has a reason for this increased understanding among the audiences about copy and inspirations. He says, “Earlier it was enough for writers to watch some English movies and cook a story idea copying from them. But today, these English movies are easily available to common audiences in their drawing room on TVs.”
“At any given point of time, the audiences have at their disposal, more than 40-50 movies and the World Cinema is in their TVs. Hence it would be foolish to copy as they can easily make out which movie is copied”, he adds. Even before his ‘Julayi’ movie happened, the film maker found the necessity to tell something very native to our Telugu people, our emotions and things unique to our culture. That’s Trivikram’s strategy to choose family stories like Atharintiki Daredi and SOS recently.
