Disaster December Continues for Superstar: Worst Film?

Mohanlal Vrusshabha box office disaster

After L2 Empuraan, Thudarum and Hridayapoorvam, Mohanlal returned with his fourth release of the year. The bilingual film Vrusshabha, directed by Nanda Kishore, finally arrived in theatres yesterday after multiple delays.

Although the shooting of Vrusshabha began in 2023, the film faced repeated postponements due to various issues. This prolonged wait raised curiosity among audiences before its eventual theatrical release.

With the box office success of L2 Empuraan and the critical appreciation received by Hridayapoorvam and Thudarum, 2025 had been a strong year for Mohanlal. Many expected Vrusshabha to continue that successful streak.

However, early audience reactions have been largely negative. Several viewers described Vrusshabha as outdated and poorly made, with some calling it one of the worst Malayalam films released this year.

Disappointed Mohanlal fans have also targeted director Nanda Kishore. Many accused him of delivering a weak film that left a negative impact on Mohanlal’s otherwise successful run this year.

Vrusshabha was reportedly made on a budget of 120 crores. Shot in both Telugu and Malayalam, it was promoted as a Pan-Indian project ahead of its theatrical release.

Due to limited promotion, the film opened to average occupancy. With poor word of mouth spreading quickly, audience interest has dropped sharply, pushing the film towards a major box office failure.

Given the overwhelmingly negative response, the coming days will be crucial. It remains uncertain whether Vrusshabha can recover enough to reach its break even point during its final box office run.
