Andhra Pradesh was forcibly divided by Congress and BJP. Congress was punished severely with never before Zero tally while BJP is given a chance to correct its mistake by offering a helping hand to the truncated state.
But its been 14 months in power but BJP proved to be exactly different from the aspirations of people. The state government had expected 27000 Crore help from the centre in the first year but in reality got a meagre 7793 Crore which is not even 30% of the expectations.
The revenue deficit of the state is at 14413 Crore and according to the AP reorganization act, centre should bear all of that but the centre barely gave 2300 Crore towards it. The state expected 2272 Crore from NDRF funds but got 347 Crore. The government had requested 700 Crore special package for seven backward districts but the centre only gave 350 Crore that too to please the Telugu community in Delhi ahead of the elections.
The state government had sought 1500 Crore as grant (interest less loan) for industrial development and did not get a single rupee.
14th Finance Commission which decides the devolution of funds to the states decided that AP should get 4163 Crore and the state got 3493 Crore. These funds from the centre are usual devolution to all the states and can not be treated as a special help.
Besides these crucial promises like Special Status, Special Railway Zone etc are still untouched. Conclusion is that Narendra Modi’s government is doing very less to the development of the truncated. May be they are feeling they do not have much to lose in AP and so are neglecting the truncated state.
