
A recent study conducted by AIG Hospital among over 1,000 IT employees in Hyderabad’s Hitech City has revealed alarming statistics which said that 80% of them were overweight.
These findings were discussed by AIG Hospital chairman Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy at the hospital’s ‘Break The Weight’ programme on World Obesity Day.

He also talked about the rising burden of obesity-related health issues.
Dr. Rajiv Menon, Head of Cardiology at AIG Hospital, talked about the increasing cases of early-onset cardiovascular diseases among IT professionals.

He said that in the West, heart diseases typically start showing a decade later than in Indians.
However, in Hyderabad’s IT sector, we are witnessing heart attacks occurring two decades earlier than expected, with individuals in their 20s suffering from heart attacks due to obesity.

Everyone thinks that the problem of obesity is much more prevalent in the US, however, the numbers have revealed a shocking truth.
60% of the population is overweight, while 30% are on the verge of becoming obese.
Dr. Reddy also pointed out some disturbing trends among children. 40% of students in government schools were found to have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, mainly because of obesity.
The numbers are huge and we shouldn’t brush them under the carpet.
Obesity is linked to major health concerns such as diabetes, liver disease, PCOD, respiratory issues, and sleep disorders. We should make urgent lifestyle changes to address this growing problem and start worrying about our health.
