Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar announces power tariff reduction

The Andhra Pradesh government has brought another round of good news for its citizens. Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar announced a major reduction in electricity prices, effective from November. The announcement was made during the inauguration of new substations in Kintali and Chauduvada villages of the Madugula constituency, located in Anakapalli district.

Speaking at the event, the Minister said that the previous government had increased the Fuel and Power Purchase (FPP) cost by 40 paise per unit, which had caused additional financial pressure on the poor and middle-class consumers. He confirmed that the FPP will now be reduced to 13 paise, significantly lowering the burden on households.

He also revealed that 69 new substations will be established across 11 districts, with a total investment of Rs 250 crore. This move aims to strengthen power supply infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted electricity in rural and urban areas.

In another key announcement, 20 lakh SC and ST households in the state will soon be equipped with solar panel systems to encourage renewable energy usage and reduce electricity expenses.

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has officially approved this rate adjustment, which will result in a credit of Rs 924 crore to retail power consumers. The credit amount will be reflected in monthly bills starting from November.

This initiative is being hailed as a citizen-friendly step that not only provides immediate financial relief but also supports the long-term goal of making Andhra Pradesh a sustainable energy-driven state.
