The CMs of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana met to discuss water issues on Wednesday. It is the first ever official meeting since Chandrababu and Revanth Reddy became Chief Ministers.

The meeting was held at Sramashakti Bhavan and was presided by Jalshakti Minister CR Patil. It is said that the CMs discussed the Banakacharla-Polavaram link project and 10 projects proposed by the Telangana government.

The meeting was also attended by Irrigation Minister of Telangana and Water Resources Minister of Andhra Pradesh Uttam Kumar Reddy and Nimmala Ramanaidu, CSs of both states, water resources department secretaries and engineers.

Prior to the meeting, both CMs spoke to their concerned officials regarding the issues to be raised and technical details. Both the CMs spent around one and half hours with their officials.

On July 15, the Telangana government had requested that Banakacharla-Godavari must not be part of the agenda for discussions.

It had written a letter to the Center requesting that the agenda including the project proposed by the AP government must not be discussed.

Though much is written or debated in media, this is the first step towards resolving inter-state water issues by both states.

Following the meeting, Nimmala Ramanaidu spoke to media. He shared that Krishna Board in Amaravati and Godavari Board in Hyderabad would be set up. It was also decided that committees on rivers and Banakacharla will be constituted, said Nimmala.

Where water was going from the reservoirs into canals, telemetries would be installed, said the Minister.
