He secured a good job in an IT company. When his parents started looking for matches for him, they got to know the not-so-nice news about him. The boy was caught in a rave party. While he started with ganja, he went till heroin.

Then there is the case of this boy who came to Hyderabad from his home town. He was staying at a hostel and doing computer courses. He made new friends who introduced him to cricket betting. After he lost money, he started with small thefts.
Once he went to jail and got released, he became more stubborn. He posted a MLA picture on matrimony sites and cheated gullible women. He made money in crores. When police arrested him recently, he said cricket betting changed his life for worse.

The narcotics and excise department are doing their best by counseling and rehabilitating those addicted to betting and drugs. But almost all addicted confess that it was a friend who introduced them to drugs or betting.
Apps, influencers and film stars promoting the apps are also attracting youth into this nexus and some are committing suicide, leaving the parents in shock.

From 2024, the narcotics and excise department identified 2500 people who got used to drugs or betting or both.
The police say there are high rankers, toppers, those from IITs, engineers from top IT firms among them. All of them tried the first time due to a friend, share police.
It is the responsibility of the parents to check the online and offline friends of their children and keep a tab on their spendings, advice the police.
While they try the first time through a friend, they then find out about the peddlers. Later, they turn peddlers. They then start snatching, thefts and robberies, ruining their lives.
After their life is in dumps and the career is lost, the addicts realise their mistake.
Be safe and learn to say ‘no’ the very first time!
