Speculation is rising in Telangana political circles that MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha is preparing to leave the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Party insiders say she has been sidelined in recent months, and the latest move of appointing ex-minister Koppula Eashwar as honorary president of Singareni Collieries instead of her has deepened her anger.
Kavitha has been vocal about her dissatisfaction. She recently hinted at her brother K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) and a few others trying to weaken her position in the party. A few days ago, she even targeted senior leader Jagadeesh Reddy, saying that “some devils” were active in BRS.
Her change in approach became more visible after her release from jail in the Delhi Liquor Scam case. Instead of the BRS pink scarf, she has been wearing the Telangana Jagruthi scarf. Her recent dharna for 42 percent BC reservations is also seen as her personal political agenda rather than a BRS initiative.
Another indication of the rift was seen when Kavitha visited her father and party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) before sending her younger son abroad for higher studies. KCR blessed his grandson but reportedly did not interact with Kavitha. Analysts say this reflects the growing distance between them.
Meanwhile, Kavitha has been strengthening Telangana Jagruthi. She appointed district committees, expanded its presence abroad, and has been more active in her own organisation. On Rakhi, she openly admitted that she had differences with KTR. With KCR restricted to his farmhouse due to a leg injury, KTR is handling day-to-day party activities, leaving Kavitha further isolated.
Observers believe that Kavitha’s sharp statements and separate moves are signs of her eventual exit. Once she returns from her trip to the United States, she is expected to make a formal announcement about leaving BRS and pursuing her independent political journey.
