Nara Lokesh Brainchild Whatsapp Governance

IT Minister Nara Lokesh has posted on his X handle about a positive milestone.

He wrote – Mana Mitra’s Whatsapp Governance Services have now reached 200, showcasing the power of digital governance in Andhra Pradesh.

For the unversed, Mana Mitra is a chatbot that provides government services to people in Andhra Pradesh. The state has a one-of-its-kind Whatsapp governance in India.

Through Mana Mitra, which was developed in association with Meta, one can book bus tickets, pay electricity bills, file grievances, obtain certificates, access services like Anna canteen, APSRTC and CM Relief Fund. One can also book temple seva services and access municipal services.

The idea is to provide services to the people and make governance more accessible and efficient. The chatbot has been developed in a manner where one can chat as if they were talking to a friend or family.

Mana Mitra was launched formally by IT Minister Nara Lokesh on January 30, 2025, to provide 161 civil services to the people of AP.

At the time of launch, Lokesh had underscored the importance of the app saying they will be providing 360 services in phase 2. He said that he hit upon the idea during Yuva Galam, when he realised that when food, cabs, watching a movie happens by hitting a button, why not governance.

He said that day he took up the challenge and decided to call the app Mana Mitra as it’s government in the hands of people.
