A Vizag resident tagged HRD Minister Lokesh on X to highlight an incident that made him question public cleanliness in Vizag and across India. He also praised sanitation workers, calling them the country’s true unsung heroes.
The user, @vizagobelix, shared that he saw a 14-year-old boy from a reputed school throw a wrapper out of a bus window. He noted that people often call litterers “dehati,” but in reality, cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility.
He urged Lokesh to launch a media campaign celebrating real sanitation workers and showing the consequences of littering from defaced walls to streets full of bottles and wrappers. He suggested putting up hoardings, running ads before movies, and sharing awareness videos through WhatsApp groups.
“Let’s start with Vizag and Andhra Pradesh. The country will follow,” he wrote, adding that India has become dirtier than it was a decade ago.
Minister Lokesh responded promptly, calling it a thoughtful suggestion. He agreed that clean and livable cities are everyone’s duty. Lokesh said sanitation workers deserve respect and recognition, and assured that he would take the initiative forward.
