Google’s AI consultants have arrived in Visakhapatnam to review locations for the company’s upcoming $15 billion AI Hub. This landmark 1-gigawatt data centre project marks one of Google’s biggest global investments and Andhra Pradesh’s most significant technology milestone.
The project, achieved in under two years, reflects IT Minister Nara Lokesh’s success in attracting major global tech firms like TCS, Accenture, and Cognizant to the Port City. Now, with Google’s entry, Visakhapatnam is set to become India’s leading AI destination.
The company’s representatives are touring the proposed sites in Mudasarlova, Tarluvada, and Rambilli mandal in Anakapalle district. The government has identified these areas for land allocation to support the 1,000-megawatt AI data centre’s infrastructure and operations.
For the past two days, Google’s consultants have been inspecting these lands, holding discussions with District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and other revenue officials. Survey work has begun, and boundaries are being clearly demarcated before the handover process starts.
Lands in Mudasarlova belong to the Simhachalam temple trust, so officials are addressing related administrative issues. Meanwhile, Rambilli lands are near the naval base, requiring approval from defence authorities. The State Government is already coordinating with the Centre to resolve these matters swiftly.
With Tarluvada lands ready for construction, the first phase of the AI Hub will commence there. Police have strengthened security at all key locations, and fencing will be done once surveys are complete.
This AI Hub represents Google’s largest-ever investment in India and its biggest project outside the United States. It will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s digital infrastructure, driving AI innovation, and connecting Visakhapatnam to Google’s global network of 12 AI centres.
