Congress legislator Renuka Chowdhary was issued notices by the Parliament Privileges Committee. Renuka Chowdhary is expected to explain her actions in the premises of the Parliament.
During the last winter sessions, Renuka Chowdhary made headlines for bringing a stray dog along with her to the Parliament. She allegedly breached the security protocol and many MPs protested her act. At the time, Renuka Chowdhary had said that “those who bite are sitting in the Parliament, dogs don’t bite”, she said further escalating the matter.
BJP MPs Brijlal and Indu Balagoswami complained against Renuka Chowdhary. The notices were issued for not just bringing a dog but also for insulting the MPs.
Renuka Chowdhary will have to answer before February 23. Once known as a firebrand, Renuka Chowdhary has been keeping a low profile since the BJP came to power.
The dog incident has suddenly put her in the spotlight again. On the said day, Renuka Chowdhary sent the dog that she picked up on the road back in her car. However, her reaction to breach of security protocols created trouble for her. Already, there is an ongoing debate in the country regarding stray dogs. The Supreme Court has given strict orders to reduce the threat from dogs to humans. But social groups are vehemently opposing it.
Given this backdrop, Renuka Chowdhary’s act of helping a roadside puppy created outrage in the Parliament.
