Ever since the release date posters of Aadarsha Kutumbam (AK-47) were unveiled yesterday, a fresh debate has erupted on social media. Instead of discussing the film’s October 2 release, many movie lovers have been pointing out the striking resemblance between its family poster and the iconic poster of the 2013 Hollywood comedy We’re the Millers.
The similarities are hard to ignore. Both posters feature a family of four in an almost identical composition.
As a result, many social media users are now wondering whether Trivikram is quietly adapting We’re the Millers into Aadarsha Kutumbam. The speculation has gained traction because the filmmaker previously faced heavy backlash over Agnyaathavaasi, which was widely accused of being an unofficial remake of the French film Largo Winch.
Now, some believe Aadarsha Kutumbam could similarly be an unofficial adaptation of We’re the Millers. Users have even been sharing the Hollywood film’s storyline, which follows a small-time drug dealer who hires a stripper and two youngsters to pose as a happy family while smuggling drugs across the Mexico-US border. Many are now curious to see how such a premise could be adapted for Telugu audiences if the speculation turns out to be true.
Of course, a similar poster alone does not confirm that a film is a remake. Many movies have featured similar poster designs despite having completely different stories, and there is no official confirmation that Aadarsha Kutumbam is based on or inspired by We’re the Millers.
The film was already facing allegations that its story is similar to the recently released Arjun’s film Blast. Now this poster has further shifted the conversation toward remake speculation. Given Trivikram’s past experience with Agnyaathavaasi, many feel that releasing a poster so closely resembling We’re the Millers has only fueled the rumors, which might backfire if they turn out to be true.
Ultimately, only the trailer will settle the debate. If it reveals a completely different story, the comparisons will likely fade away.
