A survey conducted by physicians from Mayo Clinic in Arizona revealed that those who eat meat, particularly red or processed meat, on a daily basis live short. They have reviewed large-scale studies involving more than 1.5 million people and arrived at this conclusion. They have conducted six studies to evaluate the effects of meat and vegetarian diets on mortality.

They recommended that the physicians should advise patients to limit animal products when possible and consume more plants than meat. The study also concluded that those who are on a vegetarian diet for more than 17 years, will have their life expectancy increase by 3.6 years when compared to short-term vegetarians.
The study is published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. Needless to say it comes as blow on non-vegetarians. If you are one among but wants to live longer, consider becoming a vegetarian.
