Andhra Pradesh Government has hiked the power charges seventh time in three years. It has become a political issue as expected.
But the way, the government is defending the hike has come as a big surprise.
Someone calls it a rational hike, someone says people have asked it for, some others say the hike is nothing, and many others usually blame Chandrababu Naidu.
In recent times, the government has been hiking many charges and taxes. For an instance, Petrol and Diesel costs in Andhra Pradesh are the highest in the country.
The government has imposed Garbage Tax and there is the OTS scheme etc.
The government is cash-strapped and has no other way. But then, the most alarming thing is how those in power are defending all these.
Any hike will be a problem for a government but there should be an attempt to explain it to the people.
But ignoring to recognize it as a problem and making ‘light’ statements is a bigger issue.
Power is an intoxicant for those in power. It gives so much of a high that we tend to ignore the obvious and assume people will support whatever we do.
But then, many times, people are angry but would not want to show that. They will certainly not show it to a government that is known for its vendetta politics.
It is exactly happening with Jagan Government in Andhra Pradesh. Someone like Prashant Kishor needs to show the mirror.
Prashant Kishor is yet to start working for YSR Congress ahead of the 2024 elections. If he is still in the contract, this should be his first task.
