Very recently, the TTD board and the AP government came under severe scrutiny for the lackluster food arrangements at the TTD Annadana Satram at Tirupati. This brought outrage on the TTD board’s operations in the YCP regime.
Now, the TTD is again under the pump, this time at the AP High Court. The court slammed the TTD board for approving a municipal project to be carried out in Tirupati. It all started when former TTD board member Bhanu Prakash Reddy filed a case against TTD’s funds misuse.
Incidentally, the Tirupati Municipality reported that Rs 50 crores are being spent on waste collection and management in the town. Then came the approved bill from TTD, saying the board is ready to spend Rs 100 crores on waste management in Tirupati.
The HC slammed this bill and ordered that the TTD funds can’t be misused. The court clearly stated that the waste management and clean-up activities in Tirupati should be carried out with Tirupati Municipality funds and TTD funds can’t be used for the same. The court also questioned the nature of the bill as the TTD came forward to spend 100 crore on a non-related activity that was anyway costing only Rs 50 crore.
The HC was amused by why and how the TTD could approve a bill amounting to Rs 100 crores for something that is not related to the Devasthanam. “How can you divert the money presented by the public at Tirumala shrine to some municipal activity?” the court questioned the TTD board. The court passed interim order asking TTD not to release the funds.
