vishwak-sen-mechanic-rocky-telugu-movie-reviewWhat Is the Film About?

Rakesh aka Rocky (Vishwak Sen) is a mechanic cum driving instructor working in his father’s garage. One day a huge offer comes from a realtor to sell the property. The deal is set by Ranku Reddy (Sunil), and he doesn’t want to disappoint his customer at any cost. What lengths he goes to get the garage and what does the hero do to save it?

Meanwhile, Rocky falls in love with Priya and is also in touch with Maya, one of the students learning driving from him. How all these seemingly unrelated events get connected eventually is the movie’s overall plot.

Performances

It is because of Vishwak Sen’s ease and energy that a plot like Mechanic Rocky, which requires much more work, keeps moving.

A closer look at Vishwak Sen would also reveal the different times Mechanic Rocky might have been shot. He appears different in a few places. While his physicality looks visible at times, he seems fine in other places for the same reason. In general, it is a fun act from the actor and there is nothing to complain on his part.

Meenakshi Chaudhary appears like a typical female lead, initially. She dons homely looking get up and yet is presented in a likeable and lovely way. The role gets a little depth later on, which showcases a non-smiling serious side of the actress. We have seen her do the same recently and its no different here.

Shraddha Srinath is the third key element in the casting. She starts off in a routine way and gets something different to do intermittently. The character arc makes her stand out even though the act itself could have benefitted a lot with better writing and depth instead of just blowing out smoke and winking.

director-ravi-teja-mullapudiAnalysis

Ravi Teja Mullapudi writes and directs Mechanic Rocky. It is a typical drama with comedy sprinkled at the start and then followed by twists and turns and the core story that holds it all together.

Right from the start, one can sense an unevenness in the tone. Something serious is happening, which is punctured by a joke. It feels jarring and this feeling continues through the narrative.

The entire first half deals with the past of the hero. It involves events involving his father and lover. Both tracks offer nothing new in content. It is the present involving the gags related to the garage works and teaching car driving that evoke some mild laughs here and there.

A massive build-up is seen with a character presented as the antagonist. It leads to a predictable interval block after all the comedy bits.

The interval block itself doesn’t work. It is long and stretched needlessly. It also involves an element that turns the story in a new direction. There is comedy amidst all the drama. The uneven tone and lengthy feel take a toll at the interval as one literally wants a break at that point.

The interval doesn’t really make one look forward to the second half. The hopes are reduced. This mindset helps as the content that follows post-intermission is actually decent.

There are a couple of twists in the tale and also the core drama and content related to the story are revealed. They are fine and hold one’s attention for the time being. The issue at hand is easy to identify and is handled without complication.

However, by the time one reaches the end of the core drama, somehow it manages to be a little less engaging and by the time we are back to the present proceedings things are back to square one. The ending doesn’t enthuse any enthusiasm. Some things that are dragged too late, happen too soon now.

Everything looks rushed as everyone seems to be in a hurry to finish things off. The climax barely registers as a result and it also takes down with it the decent parts at the start of the post-intermission.

Overall, Mechanic Rocky starts on a very routine note trying hard to make one laugh. It barely manages to get any thought. It has a decent stretch in the second half that saves it, on the whole, from turning into an irreparable mess.

meenakshi-chaudhary-mechanic-rocky-telugu-movie-reviewPerformances by Others Actors

Apart from the three principal casts involving the hero and two heroines, there is a fair share of the presence of known faces in the movie. We have Sunil, Naresh, Viva Harsha, Harshavardhan, Hyper Adhi, Raghuram and others. Everyone is known for certain kinds of acts, and they do that diligently.

director-ravi-teja-mullapudiMusic and Other Departments?

Jakes Bejoy provides the music and the background score for the movie. The latter is definitely a high point, for the movie, even at its lowest. It’s trendy and cool without too much noise pollution.

The cinematography is good, mostly. There is a colourful vibe to the proceedings, especially in the first half. The editing is alright. The production values are decent considering the scope here. The writing could have been better.

Final Report:

Mechanic Rocky has a better second half compared to the first, with a couple of twists, but it doesn’t completely turn the tables. However, it does make the film more watchable. An effective ending could have improved it further. Vishwak Sen’s energy help keep things moving, but keep your expectations in check.

First Half Report:

Vishwak Sen carries the first half of Mechanic Rocky with his usual energy, but the treatment and writing are rather ordinary and underwhelming so far. A couple of songs also don’t add much. We’ll have to wait and see if the second half raises the bar.

Mechanic Rocky starts with Rocky (Vishwak Sen) a car garage owner, starts teaching Shraddha Srinath driving, which opens his humorous flashback. Stay tuned for the report.
