The city of Bangalore is facing acute water shortage which has forced the civic authorities to impose heavy fines and punishments for those who waste water. This water shortage has affected a large population of the city. Conducting IPL matches in such scarcity of water is questionable and it has finally come under the scanner of the National Green Tribunal.
So far three matches have already been conducted at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The National Green Tribunal has asked the concerned authorities to give a detail of the amount of water used in these games.
According to an estimate, nearly 75,000 liters of treated water is used in each game. Bangalore has banned the use of treated water for any non-essential work like car washing and also imposed heavy fines.
It would be important to see what decision is made by the NGT. IPL matches were shifted to a different venue a few years back when Chennai suffered from a similar water shortage. It might upset the fans but the water crisis is worsening and commercial sports cannot be a priority at this point.
