Veg Sandwich Horror: Bengaluru Woman Wins 1 Lakh

Bengaluru vegan prawn sandwich case

A Bengaluru woman recently faced a distressing experience after she ordered a vegan sandwich on Swiggy from Paris Panini. She found a piece of prawn inside the sandwich after taking her first bite. The discovery left her shocked and triggered a strong emotional reaction.

Reports say the complainant, 37-year-old Nisha G., has been a vegetarian all her life and later became vegan due to her love for animals. She had clearly selected a vegan sandwich on the app. The unusual taste made her check the filling, where she found prawn pieces.

Nisha then visited the Paris Panini outlet. The manager admitted that the mix up happened due to a heavy rush and offered a replacement. She refused the offer, saying she felt humiliated and spiritually disturbed.

She later filed a consumer complaint seeking 2 lakh in compensation. The matter was taken up by the Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

Months later, the commission ruled that serving non vegetarian food to a vegan was a serious deficiency in service. It directed Swiggy and Paris Panini to pay 50,000 as compensation, 50,000 for mental agony, 5,000 towards litigation costs, and to refund 146 with 12 percent annual interest.

The case soon went viral online. Many users supported the restaurant and called it a human mistake. They argued that strict vegans should order only from pure vegetarian outlets to avoid risks.

Some vegans agreed that such errors can cause emotional distress but noted that ordering from mixed menu places always carries a chance of mix ups. They suggested greater caution in such cases.

Several people also said that Swiggy only delivers food and does not prepare it. They felt the platform was being held responsible for something outside its control. Others argued that if Nisha is a strict vegan and an animal lover, ordering from a restaurant that serves non veg may itself go against her beliefs.

The incident has sparked debate on responsibility, caution, and the expectations placed on delivery platforms and restaurants.
