The tech capital of India has been facing a severe water crisis for the past several weeks. Bangalore is now under a threat of another health crisis as authorities sound alarm of a potential cholera outbreak. There have been 9 positive cases of cholera in the city in the past two months alone.
Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute has detected two new cases of cholera among students. A total of 47 patients are hospitalized with the symptoms of cholera in the city. This has alarmed the PG owners of the city.
Bangalore is also an educational hub with hundreds of colleges. Most of the students reside in PGs, which are more likely to get affected during an outbreak. The PG owners association has issued new guidelines to owners after holding a meeting regarding the scenario.
The common symptoms of cholera include loose motions and dehydration. It has been advised to practice hygiene at common residences like hostels and PGs. It is also important to monitor the health of all individuals residing in the premises.
This comes at a time when the city was already in a chaotic state because of water shortage. An outbreak challenge the health infrastructure of the city.
