Deadly Cough Syrup Warning: Parents Beware!

Deadly cough syrup warning for parents

The government has warned you not to give cough or cold syrups to very small children. This alert came after twelve children died in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. They had taken a cough syrup suspected to be unsafe and harmful.

Tests revealed that one brand, Coldrif, contained a toxic chemical called Diethylene Glycol. This chemical can seriously damage the kidneys and cause death. While some other samples tested clean, officials are still checking the exact cause.

Health officers have clearly said that children below two years must never be given cough or cold syrups. For older children, these medicines should be given only under a doctor’s advice and used for a short period.

Following the incident, the Rajasthan government banned the sale of the company’s medicines and suspended several drug officers. Tamil Nadu also stopped the same brand from being sold in the state.

Doctors have urged you to avoid giving any syrup without medical advice. Warm water, rest, and simple home remedies are safer ways to treat your child’s cough or cold at home.
