A shocking dowry related cybercrime case has emerged from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. A husband was arrested for secretly recording and uploading private videos of his wife. The incident has triggered widespread outrage.
The accused, identified as Shivam Sahu from Jhula village, married the woman on May 10, 2025. Within seven months of marriage, he allegedly began recording intimate videos without her consent. One of the videos was 13 minutes and 14 seconds long.
Despite assuring his wife that the videos would remain private, Shivam reportedly uploaded them to porn websites. He also shared the clips with relatives. This happened after the woman’s family failed to pay Rs 1 lakh out of the promised Rs 3 lakh dowry.
Police reports suggest the accused was addicted to porn. He allegedly wanted to become a porn star, which further influenced his actions. Investigators believe this obsession played a key role in the crime.
The victim slipped into severe depression after discovering the videos online. In her complaint, she said her life was destroyed. She told police she could not sleep, eat, or step out of her house due to fear and shame.
The complaint was filed at the Civil Lines police station in Rewa. Based on her statement, police registered multiple charges. These included cybercrime, dowry harassment, and circulation of obscene content without consent.
Shivam Sahu was arrested on February 17, 2026. He was sent to jail the following day. The cyber cell is currently working to remove the videos from online platforms.
The case highlights serious issues still present in rural India. Dowry pressure, lack of consent, and digital abuse continue to threaten women’s safety. Experts say stronger enforcement and awareness are urgently needed to protect married women.
