In a chilling case from Uttar Pradesh, a newlywed woman named Pragati Yadav, just 22 years old, is accused of orchestrating the murder of her husband only 15 days after their wedding.
The shocking twist: she allegedly used ₹2 lakh in wedding shagun cash to hire the killer. Her husband, Dilip Yadav, 25, was ambushed while returning from Kannauj on March 19, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Police investigations revealed that Pragati was secretly in a relationship for four years with Anurag Yadav, a man from her own village.
Unable to accept her arranged marriage, she and Anurag allegedly hired a contract killer named Ramji Nagar—also known as Ramji Chaudhary—and paid him upfront using money received as wedding gifts.
The assassin tricked Dilip into accompanying him to a field near Palia village. There, Dilip was brutally beaten and shot. Locals found him critically injured and rushed him to the hospital.
CCTV footage showing Dilip riding a motorcycle with the attacker helped police identify the suspect.Within days, authorities arrested Pragati, Anurag, and Ramji.
During interrogation, Ramji and Anurag confessed to the crime and named Pragati as the mastermind. Police also seized weapons, cartridges, a motorcycle, and mobile phones from the suspects.
The case has shocked the nation, with investigators highlighting how wedding cash was converted into blood money. Pragati, who likely feared social stigma and family pressure, did not elope before the marriage but instead plotted a fatal route to reunite with her lover after tying the knot.
This disturbing case underscores the dark consequences of forced marriages and suppressed relationships in rural India. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if more individuals were involved in the conspiracy.
