Rohit Sharma‘s inconsistency in few matches really a concern, or is he still India’s biggest player in pressure matches?
Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers believes Rohit’s experience and ability to deliver in crucial games make him an important part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
AB said players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bring something that cannot be easily replaced. He even remarked that experience is not something that can simply be bought from a supermarket.
According to him, experienced players become even more valuable when the pressure is at its highest in major tournaments.
At the same time, the former South Africa captain admitted that consistency has never been Rohit’s strongest point.
He said the Indian opener has always gone through ups and downs, but when the team needs someone in a big match, Rohit is the player every side would want in its XI.
The England ODI series also supported AB’s view. After scores of 11 and 26 in the first two matches, Rohit answered his haters with a brilliant 138 off 110 balls in the final ODI at Lord’s.
Although India lost the match and the series, his innings once again showed why he is trusted on the biggest stage.
