Former Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary, who has known Kohli since his junior cricket days in Delhi, believes aggression is important in cricket but only up to a certain limit.
According to him, Kohli never carried personal hatred despite his fiery reactions on the field.
Anil Chaudhary recalled the famous IPL 2013 heated clash between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders match.
The two had a heated face off after Kohli’s dismissal, with Rajat Bhatia stepping in before the argument became bigger.
The former umpire said he was not surprised by the incident because players from North India often play with high intensity. At the same time, he made it clear that there is always a limit that should not be crossed.
He also revealed another side of Kohli that fans rarely see. According to Chaudhary, if an umpire makes the right decision, Kohli appreciates it and even shares light moments during the game. That, he believes, proves Kohli’s aggression is driven by passion, not bad intentions.
Kohli is now focused only on ODI as India prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup, his aggressive mindset continues to remain one of the biggest talking points.
