English cricketer Harry Brook has expressed disappointment over the possibility of Pakistani players missing out on selection by Indian owned franchises in the upcoming season of The Hundred. His remarks have triggered debate across cricket circles and social media.
Calling Pakistan one of the great cricketing nations, Brook said their absence would be unfortunate. He pointed out that around 50 to 60 players are part of the auction pool. He added that Pakistani cricketers bring quality and strong crowd support.
Brook stated that it would be a shame not to see some Pakistan players in the tournament. According to him, their presence would enhance both competition and fan engagement. His comments were widely circulated soon after they surfaced.
Indian social media reacted sharply to the statement. Several users criticised Brook and questioned his understanding of the issue. Some even suggested that his remarks would not receive the response he might have expected.
Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra also raised questions. He pointed out that only nine Pakistani players have been selected in the first five years of The Hundred. He further noted that no Pakistani woman cricketer has been picked so far.
The issue has reopened discussions about politics and sport. Critics highlighted that England supported Russia’s exclusion from global sports after the Ukraine conflict. With the auction date approaching, attention will remain on whether franchise owners alter their strategy or retain full autonomy in player selection.
