India are finally back to winning ways. Shreyas Iyer registered his first T20I series win as captain after India defeated Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the second T20I to seal the three match series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma and the young bowlers played a key role in the win. Despite, Abhishek Sharma’s batting form continues to be a concern despite his impressive performance with the ball.
After being asked to bat first, India posted 219/5 in 20 overs. Openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma failed to convert their starts, scoring 20 and 8 respectively.
Ishan Kishan then took control with a brilliant 81 off 44 balls, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 60 to guide India past the 200 run mark.
Zimbabwe never looked in the chase after losing wickets at regular intervals. Abhishek Sharma impressed with the ball by taking three wickets, while Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav picked up two wickets each.
Ravi Bishnoi, Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma also chipped in as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 129.
The series win is an important result for Shreyas Iyer after the disappointing tours of England and Ireland.
India have now sealed the series with one match still to play, and several young players have stepped up with both bat and ball.
One concern still remains. Abhishek Sharma has once again failed to make an impact with the bat and managed only eight runs.
While his three wicket spell helped India win comfortably, can Team India continue backing him as an opener if his batting struggles continue?
