Ishan Kishan was not included in the BCCI annual central contract list for the 2025-26 season. The decision surprised many fans and experts. He has recently returned to the Indian team and is part of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad.
Kishan made his comeback during the T20I series against New Zealand. It was his return after more than two years away from the national side. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
He scored 215 runs in four matches in the series. He also hit his first T20I hundred in the final game. On current form, he has moved ahead of Sanju Samson in the wicketkeeper batter race.
Because of these performances, many expected his name in the central contract list. His omission has raised several questions. Fans are keen to know the reason behind the decision.
The confusion increased as Kishan had a contract last season. At that time, he was not playing international cricket regularly. Earlier, he had lost his contract after skipping domestic matches.
However, missing the current list does not mean the door is closed. As per BCCI rules, a player becomes eligible for a Grade C contract by playing 2 Tests, 5 ODIs, or 10 T20Is in a season. The Grade C contract is worth Rs 1 crore.
The BCCI contract season runs from October 1 to September 30. Kishan has already played five T20Is this season. If he features regularly, including in the T20 World Cup, he can meet the criteria.
Ishan Kishan’s absence from the list is not the end of the road. If he continues to perform and stay in the squad, he can still secure a BCCI central contract before the season concludes.
