Following the failure of Vaa Vaathiyaar, Karthi is now all set to return with his long-pending project Sardar 2 directed by PS Mithran, which is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on September 10th.
With only a few days left until the release, the grand pre-release event of Sardar 2 recently took place in Chennai, where many celebrities participated, including Suriya and director Sundar C.
During his speech at the event, director Sundar C officially confirmed his collaboration with Karthi and the update is now going viral on social media. Sundar C stated that he is collaborating with Karthi for a commercial entertainer featuring a huge ensemble of stars, with a flavour reminiscent of 80s cinema.
Furthermore, he mentioned that Karthi is one of the biggest stars in Kollywood, loved by all sections of the audience, similar to Vijay and Rajinikanth.
In response to the update from the director, while some people feel that Sundar C is an outdated director and Karthi has made a poor decision to collaborate with him at this prime phase of his career, others feel the exact opposite.
They note that for the last few years, Karthi has been doing more genre-specific movies and has not acted in fun commercial entertainers. They suggest that even though Karthi has been appreciated for doing something different, a commercial entertainer is essential at times for an actor to capture the hearts of a wider audience, especially in B and C centres.
Therefore, they feel that Sundar C is the perfect director to bring out the humorous side of Karthi and if this project shapes up well, it could help the actor emerge as a major mass commercial star.
Ultimately, with mixed responses surrounding the Karthi and Sundar C collaboration, it remains to be seen how this project takes shape and whether it will emerge as a successful venture, leading Karthi to become a huge mass commercial actor in Kollywood.
