Kavya Maran Abrar Ahmed controversy

Sunrisers owner Kavya Maran is facing heavy trolling on social media after Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed was picked by the Sunrisers franchise in The Hundred tournament.

The mystery spinner was reportedly bought for around Rs 2.34 crore. He will represent Sunrisers Leeds in England’s 100 ball tournament.

The move surprised many cricket fans online. So far, there has been no official statement from the Sunrisers franchise regarding the decision.

Reports say Abrar Ahmed will not be part of the Indian Premier League. However, he is expected to play for Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred.

Soon after the news surfaced, several fans reacted strongly on social media. Some users even started calling for a boycott of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2026.

A few users also shared old posts linked to Abrar Ahmed. They claimed the spinner had earlier mocked India, which further triggered online reactions.

Some fans also said they would support Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

As the discussion spread, Kavya Maran became the centre of trolling on social media platforms.

According to reports, Kavya Maran has an estimated net worth of around Rs 409 crore. She is the daughter of businessman Kalanithi Maran, whose reported net worth is around Rs 19,000 crore.

At present, the controversy remains largely on social media. Since Abrar Ahmed will play only in The Hundred for Sunrisers Leeds and not in the Indian Premier League, it is unclear if the debate will affect Sunrisers Hyderabad when IPL 2026 begins.
