Was the long wait finally worth it? After spending nearly two years away from international cricket because of injuries, Mayank Yadav made a dream return in the first T20I against Zimbabwe.
The Indian pacer produced a Player of the Match performance and later spoke about the difficult journey that brought him back to the national team.
Mayank Yadav admitted that the two year gap was one of the toughest phases of his career. He said dealing with repeated setbacks at the age of 22 was never easy, but the dream of representing India kept him motivated throughout his recovery.
According to the fast bowler, wearing the Indian jersey again was the biggest reason he never gave up. The young pacer also praised captain Shreyas Iyer for showing complete faith in his bowlers.
Mayank said Iyer allowed them to follow their own plans while also giving useful inputs during the match, which helped him bowl with confidence.
Speaking about the future, Mayank was full of praise for 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He called the youngster’s batting unbelievable and said he had never imagined a player of that age could dominate bowlers so confidently.
Mayank also revealed that India’s pace bowlers regularly shared ideas during the innings and added that the Harare pitch suited fast bowling. After a memorable comeback, can Mayank now stay fit and become India’s long term pace weapon?
