IPL Madness: PBKS Script History, What’s Truly Scary?

PBKS chase 265 vs Delhi IPL 2026

In the 35th match of the Indian Premier League 2026, Punjab Kings pulled off a massive chase of 265 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 25. It turned out to be one of the highest successful run chases in IPL history.

Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, won the toss and chose to bat. They lost Pathum Nissanka early, but after that, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana took control of the innings.

The two added 220 runs for the second wicket. Rahul scored 152 off 67 balls with 16 fours and 9 sixes, while Rana made 91 off 44 balls. Delhi finished with a huge total of 264.

Chasing 265, Punjab Kings started aggressively. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya added 126 runs for the first wicket in quick time. Prabhsimran scored 76 off 26 balls and Arya made 43 off 17 balls, putting Delhi under pressure early in the chase.

After the fast start, Shreyas Iyer played a key role in taking the innings forward and finishing the game. He stayed calm and made sure Punjab did not lose control despite the big target.

Delhi also made mistakes in the field which proved costly. Karun Nair dropped two simple catches of Shreyas Iyer in Kuldeep Yadav’s overs. Those chances could have changed the match, but once Shreyas survived, he made sure Delhi paid the price.

Punjab Kings chased down 265 with six wickets in hand and one over remaining. It was a tough result for Delhi, especially after posting such a big total.

And that’s what’s truly scary even totals above 260 are no longer safe in today’s T20 game.

A score of 260 plus is usually considered safe, but this match showed that even that is not enough now, and teams might need 300 to feel secure.

This game also became part of the list of highest successful chases in IPL history, with Punjab now holding the top spot with 265 against Delhi in 2026, followed by their 262 against Kolkata in 2024, Hyderabad chasing 246 against Punjab in 2025, Bengaluru chasing 228 against Lucknow in 2025, and Rajasthan chasing 224 against Punjab in 2020.

Despite a 152 run knock from Rahul, Delhi Capitals could not defend their total, while Punjab Kings walked away with a memorable win.
