Shreyas Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, has spoken out after facing social media abuse following Punjab Kings’ exit from IPL 2026. PBKS missed a playoff spot by just one point, which triggered strong reactions online.
Soon after the team’s elimination, an old Instagram reel featuring Shresta Iyer began circulating on social media. The clip was recorded after a rain affected match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, where both teams received one point because of the washout.
In the reel, Shresta was seen in a light-hearted mood. However, after PBKS failed to qualify, some users shared the video out of context and started trolling her online.
Responding through an Instagram video, Shresta clarified that the reel was only meant as fun banter. She said there was no intention to insult any player or franchise and added that many people misunderstood the clip.
Shresta also revealed the extent of the harassment she faced. According to her, the abuse did not remain limited to social media comments. She claimed that some people even contacted her workplace and disturbed her colleagues, students and family members.
Calling the behaviour unacceptable, she said such harassment should never happen. Shresta also stated that she respects all cricketers and fans, and there was no hate behind her post.
She further added that she will always support her brother Shreyas Iyer regardless of results. At the same time, she stressed that targeting family members and unrelated individuals over cricket results is wrong.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about toxic fan culture in cricket. While emotions often run high during tournaments, this episode shows how online trolling can quickly turn into personal harassment.
